Dance Technical basis
The floor
Dancing surfaces must absorb shocks and possess a bounce, thus making elevations easier. These surfaces can then, compensate for ballet shoes which are ill-suited to propulsion and, can lower the force inflicted on both the lower limbs and spinal column. Therefore, french regulations require that all dance studios have suspended parquet flooring, preferably made from Norwegian fir, lino floor covering over the top is optional; however, during shows and performances, dancers, sometimes, have not only to rehearse, but also, and dance on floors made of concrete or macadam tarmac which are extremely hard. In addition, when a parquet is not correctly maintained, laths can separate and cause traumas.
