Panelists:

Seven student researchers submitted proposals for dance medicine and science research this summer. Three proposals were selected for presentation at the conference:

Mirrors in Learning and Performance – Rachael Ross

The Creation of a Screening Questionnaire for Eating Disorders in Dancers –
M. Elizabeth Pedersen et al.

Pelvic Control of a Skilled Dance Movement, the Passé, in Professional Female Dancers and Non-Dancers – Emily R. Sandow et al.

These student researchers will present their proposals and one or more experienced dance medicine and science researchers will offer suggestions for refining the research methodology to increase the potential instructiveness of the experimental results.

Two other proposals will be reviewed but will not be presented during the conference:

ComDance! Synergistic Integration of Dance Medicine and Communication in the Dance Classroom – Nicola Conraths

Pointe Shoe Training and Ankle Flexibility in Classical Ballet Dancers – Nelson Rodriguez De Leon

Some of the panelists’ reviews will be presented during the panel presentation. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions, make comments, and provide written suggestions for the student researchers on forms provided during the presentation. After the presentations, the reviewers written commentaries will be delivered to all the researchers who submitted complete proposals.

This panel has the potential to benefit our field in three ways:
1. The studies reviewed are likely to be executed with greater clarity and precision;
2. Most people attending the panel are likely to learn something about research methodology from hearing the presentations, commentaries, and discussion;
3. The panel will offer a glimpse into the way researchers think and the types of problems they must solve.
