The osseous elements of the post impingement syndrome comprise: the inferior edge of the posterior articular side of the tibia, the long or short posterior tubercle of the talus (short-tailed,long-tailed), a possible os trigonum and the posterior edge of the calcaneus.
The ligamentous system combine the internal annular ligament, the posterior fibulo-talian bundle of the external lateral ligament of the tibio-talian articulation, the posterior and inferior fibulo-tibial ligaments.
The tendinous elements include the tendons of the flexor hallucis longus muscle (MFHL) and the flexor digitorum pedis longus muscle.
The synovial elements comprise the MFHL sheath and the posterior synovial cul-de-sac of the tibio-talian and sub-talian articulations.
There are also vasculo-nervous elements such as the posterior tibial artery and the posterior tibial nerve which are found between the MFHL tendons and flexor digitorum pedis longus muscle.
