Phlyctenae are the result of stress injuries that can be localized or caused by repeated rubbing either in ballet shoes or against a hard surface. Heat and increasing dampness resulting from intensive ballet dancing are factors which lead to their formation.
Treatment consists of local, antiseptic applications. We also recommend the wearing of the new adhesive protective "Duoderm extra fin" plasters. Left in place for several days, they lessen pain by encouraging a faster re-epidermization of the affected area.
