This GYROKINESIS® movement session will re-educate the body to move with fluidity, elegance and power. Gyrokinesis methodology was developed by Juliu Horvath over the past 30 years. Horvath was a classical dancer who developed this method in response to his own personal struggle with chronic pain and injuries. Gyrokinesis classes work in a variety of settings, including seated on stools, on the floor and standing. It begins with the focus on the spine and pelvis. The class mobilizes the spine through a series of arching, curling, and spiralling movements. Once the spine and pelvis are mobilized, the class continues expanding the same movement patterns to release the lower body. This methodology works the joints and muscles of the entire body in a gentle yet invigorating manner. Fluidity is the key. Corresponding breathing patterns organize the movements into a harmonious flow similar to dance; the specificity of Gyrokinesis work to dance training is one of the elements that has made it increasingly valuable to dancers.
Gyrokinesis methodology provides dancers with a system to increase range of movement. This method can be used effectively in modern as well as classical dance. It can be used to enhance and re-educate current dancers to prevent injuries as well as for dance injury rehabilitation. Gyrokinesis exercises make use of contrasting and opposing movements to create stability and power. Through what we refer to as a flossing technique, which will be experienced during the movement session, it encourages the body and mind to release holding patterns. As a result dancers will experience a greater range of movement with the control and power required to execute the movements with fluidity and grace.
