Development of a website for dance wellness screening data

Galbraith, G, Potter, K, Dance Program, Department of Theater Arts, Case Western Reserve University
Fortun, C, Ohio Physical Therapy Clinic
Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the project was to continue the development of the computerization of dance wellness data by creating a website to allow dancers and others who work with dancers to access individual and group data as well as applicable analysis.

METHODS: The logic developed for the original dance wellness computer program was implemented for the website with further developments in some areas. Individual data is password secured for appropriate security and privacy. Additional sources, such as pertinent links, anatomical graphics, and video clips demonstrating suggested course of action for cited deficiencies, are also integrated into the website.

ANALYSIS: The analysis, in both numeric and graphic output, is generated for each subject. Links to the underlying data used to support citations made in the analysis, create a ‘drill-down’ effect. This is extremely useful with regard to the application of data to the technique screen.

RESULTS: The website provides immediate results for dancer, dance teacher, training consultants and medical professionals in developing a personalized cross training program for the dancer. Changes over time can be observed through the presentation of historical data and summary statistics are available as well.

CONCLUSIONS: The development of a website that provides this kind of sophisticated analysis of dance wellness screening data, has important implications in the field of dance medicine and science. With web entry mechanisms being implemented, it is possible for others institutions and organizations to utilize the functionality behind the website. This will provide the means to help establish dancer specific norms and hopefully establish a standard for dance wellness screens.
