Contribution of the Feldenkrais® method in the execution of the movements of rotation of the scapular and pelvic waist in Spanish dance

Carmen Vazquez Fernandez, Esklepion, Madrid, Spain

The Feldenkrais Method® used in the classes of Dance contributes to the dancer different rules when executing its steps, in this case the turns, and it endows him with an awareness that will allow him a bigger economy in the expression and elegance in the execution. The different movements that are nurtured in the Spanish Dance and Flamenco require of the dancer chained movements that he should habitually execute quickly and precisely with little previous preparation. In the slow dances such as the “Solea,” however, the execution of the turn is slow and with an excessive “Cambree” that the Bailaora should carry out in conjunction with her arms and in some cases with different additions like shawls, fans, castanets, etc…. All of these turns so characteristic of the Spanish Dance are made by integrating different movements that are contradictory on occasion, and such that when executed in an imprecise way can cause lesions and ailments in the Cervical Column or Sacrolumbar.
The awareness that the Feldenkrais Method® contributes in a lesson, he/she will wake up deep musculo-skeletal groups, giving information to the vegetative nervous system that he/she will respond in the moment that the one interprets specifies and without previous preparation, since one of the excellent characteristics of the Feldenkrais Method®, it is to know that faces to make what you want.
In a Lesson of Awareness Through Movement®, (it forms in that Moshe Feldenkrais has denominated to the group lessons) the student worked slowly and conscience the rules that, verbally, the Professor him anger indicating. The Professor, with this Method, doesn’t execute the movements, but rather he guides the students through indications and questions that you/they help to understand and to facilitate the sensation and the learning. Through slight and easy movements, and in occasions inhabituales, it will develop and to enlarge the capacity of perception and of kinesthetic consciousness. These exercises will influence, so much in the Nervous System, like in the form of to think and to feel of the students. This Method charges special importance in the Medicine of the Dance because it prepares the body and it prevents possible lesions in a non-aggressive way.
