Thirty percent of the dancers seen in our clinic have been referred for complaints of pain, weakness and motor dysfunction of tissues surrounding the hip joint. Effective management of hip problems requires that dance medicine healthcare practitioners and dance educators possess a systematic understanding of the related literature and an overview of the presenting complaints paired with objective clinical measures taken during treatment.
Hip problems will be classified according to the taxonomy described by Shirley Sahrman and measures of strength and flexibility data from a sample of healthy and hip region-injured dancers will be compared and presented.
